Himalaya bike ride video on YouTube

This week one year ago we arrived in Lhasa for our mountain bike ride through the Himalaya. For that occasion I uploaded a short English-language version of the documentary that was made during our trip on YouTube. In total there are 12 episodes, each between 4 to 8 minutes. I also made a playlist of the episodes, so you can watch them all at once. The episodes cover the whole trip, from the preparations in Shanghai, the arrival in Lhasa, the beautiful nature in Tibet, Mount Everest Base Camp to the arrival in Nepal. The embedded player below plays all the episodes.

  1. What an amazing trip to make, and with your father no less! I have to say, I have been thinking about making a challenging bike trip myself some day so this was an inspiration for me. Thanks 🙂

  2. I watched the video. Very well done. I am planning on doing this tour this Aug/Sep. and I am currently researching different tour companies. I had the following in mind: Nepal Makalu and GAP Adventures.

Do you have any suggestions? Thank you.

  3. We used a local (Lhasa and Chengdu-based) company, but were not too happy with them. If I would do it again I would go to Lhasa first and find a company there. The main criteria would be if they have done bike tours before. If not, watch out, because they do not understand that bikers have different needs than people who travel by 4WD. An extra 10 km in a car is very different than an extra 10 km on a bike at high altitude. Check if they can provide you with a detailed day-to-day trip overview (distance and altitude). Do not work with a Nepal-based company, they will need to outsource to a Chinese company anyway and will therefore be more expensive and cannot take full responsibility. Good luck!
