Marc van der Chijs is a former serial entrepreneur in Shanghai, who became a venture capitalist in Vancouver.

After graduating with a Masters degree in Business Economics from Maastricht University in 1995, Marc started his career at Mercedes-Benz headquarters in Stuttgart (Germany). Late 1999 Marc moved to Beijing where he became a financial controller for DaimlerChrysler Northeast Asia. In 2002 Marc decided to quit his job, study Chinese and become an entrepreneur in Shanghai. Among others he co-founded Tudou.com, Spil Games Asia and unitedstyles.com. He started angel investing in 2006 and did about 30 investments so far. In 2013 he joined CrossPacific Capital (XPCP) in Vancouver as a managing partner, focusing on FinTech and blockchain. From 2017 onwards he only focused on cryptocurrencies and blockchain, among others founding First Block Capital, FirstCoin.com and Hut 8 Mining.

In his free time Marc likes to participate in endurance sports such as marathon running. He is also an avid sailor and skier, and he loves to travel.
