Marc,

I've been running barefoot for about five years now. It has pretty much eliminated any chronic running pains I had experienced. There are TONS of great resources available. This is a good launching pad for many of them: http://barefootrunninguniversity.com/resources.html (yes, it's my own site... I teach barefoot running.)

If you ever have questions, feel free to email me at robillardj "at" gmail "dot" com.

I keep reading things about benefits of barefoot running but its been hard for me to make the switch.. after reading your article and looking up the nike frees and vibram I found this comparison and have been leaning towards the vibrams:

http://barefootrunningshoes.org/2009/10/08/nike-free-versus-vibram-five-fingers-10-points/

Hi Marc!

I have to say that your blog post has me intrigued. My wife contracted plantar fasciitis and it took three years for it to heal.

It actually healed once and then a year later came back because she didn't care for her feet.

The symptoms you describe don't really sound like plantar fasciitis because walking barefoot should definitely hurt more than walking in appropriate shoes.

By appropriate shoes I mean cork-soled shoes like Haflingers or Kumfs. "Regular" leather soled or synthetic soled shoes should hurt like the dickens when you walk in them.

I wish you luck with the barefoot running. When I was a teenager, I had a 16 year old Native American girlfriend who never wore shoes except to school.

She could run flat out barefoot down a gravel road. The bottoms of her feet felt like thick leather. Perhaps that's what human foot soles should really be like.

And your barefoot running might just get you there.

Bob
